Nurses in India, Philippines seek higher pay overseas

MANILA/BANGALORE – Rapid response nurse Bijo Cleetus Francis thought long and hard before quitting his job at a Bangalore hospital to seek work in Britain.

A resident of Thiruvananthapuram in the southern Indian state of Kerala, Mr Francis, 26, knew he could earn more abroad, but during the pandemic, he had felt a patriotic impulse to “stay and be my country’s front-line worker”.
