COVID pandemic likely caused by China lab leak, say FBI director.

On Tuesday, Director of FBI Christopher Wray said the agency has assessed that the global pandemic Covid-19 was likely caused by a leak from a laboratory in Wuhan, China.

“The FBI has for quite some time now assessed that the origins of the pandemic are most likely a potential lab incident in Wuhan,” Wray told Fox News.

The comment by him came after a Wall Street Journal report on Sunday that the U.S. Energy Department has assessed with low confidence that the pandemic happened because of an unintended lab leak in China.

The Journal reported that four other agencies, along with a national intelligence panel, still think that Covid-19 was likely the result of natural transmission, and two others are undecided.

The U.S. government has not reached a conclusion and consensus on the origins of the pandemic, said John Kirby, spokesman of White House national security, on Monday.

Wray said not many details can be shared about the agency’s assessment as they are classified.

The Chinese government was accused by him of “doing its best to try to thwart and obfuscate” efforts by the United States and others to learn more about the pandemic’s origins.
